The origins of Valentine’s Day are murky at best. It seems there are a variety of possible origin stories for the holiday. However, it can be fairly assumed that at no point in history has Valentine’s Day become the pressure-cooker holiday that it is today. The pressure to come up with the right romantic gift, the perfect night out, the perfect dinner, can actually cause people to hate the holiday.
The first thing to do is take a deep breath. Valentine’s Day does not have to be as stressful as a trip to the doctor. There are ways to come off as the hero of the holiday for your significant other without having to generate panic attacks. At B. we’ve been hosting Valentine’s Day dinners for a long time now and we’ve learned a few things. We’ll take a look at some of the things you can do to relax this Valentine’s Day.
Of course, if you want to just go ahead and make your reservations at B. you can visit our reservations page and choose the time that works best for you.
Decide it’s time to go out for dinner
The first decision you have to make is put aside your thoughts of creating a home-cooked meal. Remember, this is our plan for creating a relatively stress-free Valentine’s Day. Maybe you’re a whizz in the kitchen and having a homemade dinner is what you want to do. That’s fine, but for those of us without a degree from culinary school, the best thing is plan a night out.
Make plans now. Make reservations now. Decide where you want to go and take into consideration what your date wants. Do they want a great view paired with fine wine and food? Is there a special place you always go? This late in the game it might be tough to get a table, but you have to act and start making calls.
Plan Valentine’s Day night
Just because you are heading out for dinner doesn’t mean you are entirely off the hook for everything. Are you going to a restaurant where you’ll need to dress up? Get your clothes ready. Your date may or may not want flowers or some other gift. Dinner may not be the only thing your significant other is expecting, but all of it can be incorporated into the dinner.
Of course, there are hotels and resorts who have special Valentine’s Day or weekend specials if you want to spend a romantic night there. Get away from it all for the night. For example, Oak Brook Hills Resort has a celebration package which is the name for the Valentine’s Day weekend package.
Research the restaurant menu
You can also find the menus of most restaurants online. Before you decide on a place just because it’s fancy, make sure there’s food you want to eat. Check online, read some reviews, have a bit of game plan in your brain for what dinner will entail. Make sure you know what your date will want to eat because nothing can be worse than making reservations and showing up at the restaurant only to then find out your date doesn’t want anything from the menu.
Are you interested in the going out for drinks before or after? Make sure you do your research on which restaurants provide that service. Make sure the restaurant and bar serve the drinks you both want. Keep in mind that this is a date for the both of you, so this is the time to ask your significant other about their favorite foods and beverages if you don’t know the answers right off the top of your head.
Determine what happens after dinner
For a lot of Valentine’s Day dates, dinner is just the start of the night. What are your plans afterward? Is there dancing? Is there something else? Are you diehard movie fans? Or would a night’s stay at a resort or hotel with in-room movies and room-service breakfast the following morning be in order? If you make these plans ahead of time, you can go a long way towards relieving the last-minute panic and stress involved.
